St Vincent de Paul Report Shows 80% of SVP Volunteers Experiencing Monumental Surge in Requests from Struggling Households.

The Report emphasised the increasing complexities faced by households, with 80% of respondents meeting families dealing with multiple difficulties. Consequently, there has been a substantial surge in calls to the charity, reaching 25,057 by the end of October 2023 alone, almost double what they were before the pandemic.

Among those SVP members surveyed, 77 per cent said the rising cost of energy was the main reason people are seeking help from the charity, the second most common request is for food.

The board of Management at Mallow Credit Union felt that the annual donation to the SVP was more important than ever and wanted to show their support to the tireless efforts of the SVP. It was agreed to support the SVP groups within Mallow Credit Union’s Common Bond, with a total of €5,000 being donated across North Cork & West Limerick.

Tomas O Neill, CEO of Mallow Credit Union said “We have a long-standing relationship with Saint Vincent de Paul in our communities and see just how much of an impact they have to the lives of families in our area each year. We are grateful to be able to continue to support their fundraising efforts this year.”
