Credit Union Art Competition 2018

Become a force to be reckoned with for Mallow Credit Union’s Art Competition

Mallow Credit Union is urging all budding artists to become a force to be reckoned with for the 2018 All Ireland Art Competition. The theme this year is “The Force of Nature” and has been designed in an effort to get the participants “thinking green” by depicting their visions of a clean pollution & litter-free environment. Winners at a local level will go on to a regional level & regional winners will progress to the national awards ceremony in Dublin’s Croke Park.

“The Force of Nature” theme has been crafted to encourage people to get thinking about the impact the local environment has on the community, and the vital importance of protecting it. Entrants are given full scope to express their thoughts, visions and hopes about their local or global environment. The hugely popular, national art competition is now in its 35th year. Each year, almost 30,000 people enter the competition through more than 200 participating credit unions. The competition has no age limits and is open to children aged 7 years and under right through to 18 years & over. There is also a category for those with physical or intellectual difficulties.

The annual competition is part of the Irish League of Credit Unions’ (ILCU) commitment to supporting the artistic development of both young and old in communities throughout Ireland. Producing and creating art can have many benefits, such as reducing stress and aiding the development of creative problem-solving skills. For children, painting and creating art can nurture fine-motor skills and neural development, while allowing them to express their emotions.

Winners, runners-up and merit award-winners at local level will go on to represent the credit union at regional level and from there, winning artworks will go forward to national level. Local winners will receive their prizes at a local prize-giving ceremony. National winners will receive cash prizes at an award ceremony to be held in Croke Park, Dublin in February 2019.
